Entertainment scene Parker: No rumour
By
NEVIN TOPP
Perhaps the best popular music news around at present is the rumoured Graham Parker and the Rumour tour is no longer a rumour.
The group will be touring New Zealand from September 4 until September 8. and will be playing in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.
Recently named alongside Elvis Costello as one of the acts with best potential from Britain, Parker and the Rumour have more than lived up to their reputation, particularly in the States. Another definite tour is that of the legendary rock guitarist, Chuck Berry, who will be playing in Christchurch on Tuesday, July 4. He last toured in Christchurch in 1973, and this
time wifi be accompanied on stage by his daughter, Ingrid, and an Auckland rock *n’ roll band, The Queen St Express. The Express include Dave Russell, a former Invaders man, Jimmy Hill, who has been in most big Auckland bands including Headband, and Sonny Day. The five-man Express will open the show and will be on stage the whole time.
Chuck Berry is also to appear on the Telethon from Auckland on July 1 and 2.
Another speculative story at present doing the music rounds is that the American new-wave band, Mink de Ville, are to tour.
However, that is only hearsay, and Willie de Ville and fellows are at present crossing America with Elvis Costello.
