‘Deport me’ plea in Court

NZPA London A New Zealand woman went shoplifting in London to get herself deported, she told the Marlborough Street Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Beryl Chrysteen Alloway, aged 48, described as a demonstrator, was charged with stealing a handbag from Selfridge’s store, Oxford Street, on June 10. She was remanded on bail to July 11 to seek legal advice. Police said there was no objection to bail because she had been in England since 1976 and was resident there.

Mrs Alloway told the Court, “I want to be deported. That’s why I did it. I haven’t got a work permit.” Mrs Alloway, who did not enter a plea to the charge, was ordered to surrender her passport to the police as a condition of bail.
