Securities Commission under study
PA Wellington Parliament has agreed to refer a proposal to establish j a Securities Commission to its Statutes Revision Committee, to hear evidence. The proposal was made in the form of an amendment to the Securities Advertising Bill at present before the committee. The Minister of Justice (Mr Thomson) said many submissions on the Securities Advertising Bill were strongly on the side of establishing a commission. Mr Thomson said the commission would have five part-time members, including a barrister as chairman. The title of the Securities Advertising Bill would now :be changed to the Securities Bill. Dr A. M. Finlay (Lab,, Henderson) said he hoped I the commission would examline several take-over bids ■which had been “somewhat disturbing.”
