Tempest Belle strong chance tonight

Special correspondent Auckland Tempest Belle looks to have a great chance in the Te Awamutu Juvenile Pace at Cambridge tonight, ending an exasperating run of minor placings. Since she won on the course in January, the speedy Kumeu filly has had three seconds, a third and a fourth. Two of her seconds were at Hutt Park over Queen's Birthday Week end. She was a game, and close, second to Dawn Mist on the first dav atfer making the pace. On the second day, she came from behind and only just failed to catch Carlotta Lopez. Tempest Belle is nicely placed at No. 3. With her main rivals ha\ ing fared not anywhere neat as well in the draw, she is likely to be taken to the front.

If these tactics are adopted by her driver, J. A. Cole, Tempest Belle will be hard to catch over a mile. The Te Awamutu Juvenile Pace is a new event being staged by the Te Awamutu club. The good stake of $5OOO has attracted most of the best two-year-olds racing in the north and the race should provide a worth-while lead-up to the A.T.C. New Zealand Juvenile Championship meeting, which opens tomorrow week. Blue Chip must be strongly considered. She has been racing consistently and. with better passages, would have done better than two thirds at Hutt Park last week-end. Del’s Trophy, Dawn Mist and Scoot will also have good followings. Dei’s Trophy was unlucky enough to draw a second-row barrier position. There was still a doubt yesterday whether he would run. I Dawn Mist won the Roy-

She 1 was only sixth on the second day of the Wellington meet- ? ing but she was badly away , — the race was run from a j standing start — and later wound up parked out. ) Next to Del’s Trophy, she t is easily the most tightly- » assessed runner. j True Mission seems certain > to be a warm favourite in i the Dickie Memorial Mobile ■ I Pace, the second leg of the .if.A.B double.
