Tendon trouble for Bhana

Balvant Bhana, the New Zealand colts and Canterbury hockey representative, is still being troubled by a nagging injury at the top of his thigh. The problem is caused by tendons and bothers Bhana when he is running at speed. “It feels like a pinched nerve,” he said. Last summer he rested from training in the hope the injury would be healed by the start of this hockey season, but it has not. He had treatment from a physiotherapist but that has now ceased because it had no effect. Now he is taking I tablets but they have failed to clear up the problem. ‘•The physiotherapist advised me to give up play-

’ ing for a year but that’s hard to do when you see , other players running i around.” : The injury first developed last October when he played ' for the New Zealand ini vitation team against the . touring Australians. I In the next two weeks Bhana intends to take things 1 easy and play only club : games in an effort to give I the injury a rest. Later in ' the season he will be seek- ! ing a place in the New Zea- ■ land team to play in an ' international tournament in i Pakistan in November and ; another tournament in I Perth in April next year. He will almost certainly be : chosen for the New Zealand ■ trials, in September.
