Birth with Laing
The documentary, “Birth wjth R. D. Laing," produced by Helen Brew, caused intense interest when it first screened in October last year.
The Scottish psychiatrist ahd psycho-.malvst R. D. Laing, argues that in New Zealand hospitals the birth process has been taken over by technology and that medical staff have a detached and clinical approach to childbirth.
He urges women — “the system’s silent dependents’’ — to demand as of right a more humanitatian approach t<J childbirth. • After the 57-minute documentary Sharon Crosbie hosts a discussion in which members of the medical profession answer some of the points raised.
“Birth With R. D. Laing” will screen again on Television One tonight.
