Lilley comes close

PA Auckland Murray Lilley yesterday missed a great chance to score one of the most important victories in his short career as . squash professional when he lost to a fellow New Zealander, Bruce Brownlee, after leading, 8-2, in the final game. It was the opening match in the second round of the Ballins Industries challenge series, involving Lilley, Brownlee and two Pakistanis, Hiddy Jahan and Torsam Khan. At the end of the second round, held at the North Shore Club. Jahan is unbeaten with two wins, Brownlee and Lilley have a win each and Khan trails with no successes.

Results of yesterday’s games: Brownlee beat Lilley, 5-9, 9-5, 9-7, 10-8; Jahan beat Khan, 9-5, 5-9, 9-4, 9-4. In the first round, held at the Manurewa club on Satur. day, Lilley beat Khan 9-5, 9-6, 5-9, 9-5, 9-7, 0-9, 10-8; Jahan beat Khan, 9-5, 5-9, 9-4, 9-4.
