Charlie Wood's durability! and courage stood to him at Ashburton on Saturday, when, at his forty-eighth! start of the season, he beat the trotters in the Stewards' Handicap. He drew out to beat Excalibur, in receipt of 30m at the start, by two lengths and a quarter in the respectable time of 3min 14.9 s for the 2400 m.
: Charlie Wood is raced by his Ashburton trainer, DougL McCormick, in partnership'; with his wife. His 48 starts 1 are thought to be a record;’ for any horse in a single 11 s.ason. His win on Saturday wasi, his second for the season , and, as well, he has had 17 i placings. His other success ' was as a pacer at Greymouth , early in January.
