$12.7M wanted for Canterbury roads
An estimated SI27M wiii, be spent on roads n Canter-' bury in the present financial year, the District Roads Council was told at its estimates meeting yesterday. This would be applied to maintenance, bridging, and construction of roads for counties, municipalities, and State highways tn Canter-: bury and the Chatham Is-1 lands. As well as proposed reading works for the present year, programmes for the district were nut before the council for estimated ex-1 penditure of 518.2 M over the next two year,. The contribution to be made by the National Roads Board for these works amounted to SB-2M this year and SII.IM over the next two years. Of this. 54.6 M »sj for subsidised reading works* this year and 56.2 M for sun j stdised works in the next two years.
