Two die in student riot
NZPA-Reuter Antananarivo Student rioters fought the police in Antananarivo, capital city of Malagasy (formerly Madagascar) on Monday and an official broadcast said that one student and one policeman were killed. The Government imposed a curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to help deal with what appeared to be the gravest student agitation since President Didier Ratsirika took office in June, 1975. Malagasy Radio described the incidents as “trouble stirred by enemies of the socialist revolution and the Malagasy people and aimed at destabilising the ruling regime.”
The radio said that students had recently been on strike. Most had started resuming classes on Monday, but a small number caused trouble.
