Help for festival
The Government may be asked for a $6500 grant to help Christchurch area local bodies meet the $13,000 Arts Festival cash deficit.
Metropolitan local bodies could meet half the deficit because of benefits gained from the festival, according to a Christcchurch Town Hall
board Of management proposal. However, the City Council cultural committee chairman (Cr Helen Garrett) said it should not be assumed that Government help was a foregone conclusion. Sir Terence McCombs said it should not be put to the Government that local
• bodies would contribute a half share only if the other 1 half was promised from a i Government grant. t The issue will be referred : to the council’s policy and 1 finance committee, since I nothing has been included in ! estimates for a City share of I the deficit. •
