Off an’ On fit for Wingatui
Special correspondent Invercargill Off an’ On, which has not raced since the Riverton Easter carnival when he was in commanding form winning twice and running second on the third day, ran keenly at Ascot Park, Invercargill yesterday morning. Galloping was conducted on a soft course proper with the trestles 45ft out.
The Riverton Cup winner, Off an’ On, completed his preparation for the Queen Elizabeth Handicap at Wingatui on Saturday when he was sent over 600 m in 41sec,, the last 400 m in 26.55ec. He was galloping strongly at the finish.
His stablemate, Jack Dugan, which may start on the second day of the Queen's Birthday meeting at Wingatui, went over 800 m in 54.8 sec, the final 600 m in 41sec.
Diamond Pal, which appears to be coming along nicely in a new campaign, completed two rounds. He came in from the 1000 m in Imin 12sec on his second lap, the last 600 m in 42sec. He is likely to resume in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap. Chollima, a last start winner at Hororata, had Charabelle for company over 600 m in 41sec. Cheeky Fella, in his first gallop since racing at Hororata, was paired with Bellus over 2000 m, running their last 600 m at a solid clip. King Prawn, which resumes in the First Brighton Handicap at Wingatui, and Ulrica ran over 1000 m in Imin B.2sec, the last 600 m in 42.25ec.
