N.Z. firm wins export order
PA Auckland. Eurotrans Motors, Ltd, the New Zealand distributors of Renault cars, has won a $lOO,OOO export order for assembly jigs for the new model 20TS saloon. The first sets of jigs will go to assembly plants in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand, and Eurotrans has final negotiations in hand for sales to Australia, Trinidad, and the Ivory Coast. Construction of the jigs Is being handled for Eurotrans by a Henderson firm, Ideas Engineering, Ltd.
The plan to build the jigs in New Zealand was put forward by Eurotrans and approved by Renault of France, on the ground that it was more economic to manufacture and export within the Pacific basin than to export from Europe. The high standard of New Zealand engineering was another important factor. The manager of Eurotrans, Mr J. A. Wood, said there was a strong chance of winning future contracts for new Renault models.
"As completely knocked down assembly schemes become increasingly commonplace throughout the world, particularly in South-East Asia and Africa, so the demand for this type of order will grow,” Mr Wood said.
