Courage Brewery sold to Tooth
AMATIL, Ltd, and Courage Ltd, have sold their shares in Courage Breweries, Ltd, to Tooth and Co., Ltd, for 32c a share. Tooths will make an unconditional cash offer of 36c a share for the shares held by the other shareholders ip the company. AMATIL, and Courage supported the company since its establishment in 1968. At the time of the new share issue in 1974, AMATIL and Courage underwrote the issue, which resulted in their combined shareholding increasing to 87.25 per cent. Despite the reorganisationat that time it has not been
possible to generate sufficient sales, and substantia] losses are being incurred. “Having considered the courses of action open, it was decided that the only practicable alternatives were to close the brewery, or to sell the enterprise to an existing brewery, which was able to ensure the volume of business required to make the brewery profitable. “It is believed that the arrangements now made with Tooths are in the best interests of the other shareholders in the company, and its employees, and customers,” the companies say.
