The stron g-willed, emancipated Hilda played by Janet Suzman, (above), makes her debut in “Hilda”, tonight's episode of “Clayhanger,” on TV2. She is the girl for whom

Edwin (William Relton) develops a long-lasting crush. Hilda is 21, and looking for adventure and excitement beyond the usual scope of Five Towns. She is also practical and at the moment concerned about her inheritance that her widowed mother (Peggy Ann Wood) is managing. She visits the local solicitor, and asks him to intervene in the rent-col-lecting system of her estate. While there she meets George Cannon (Denis Quilley) — the first f sophisticated man who has crossed her path, and probably the only one in Five Towns. Hilda demonstrates from the outset that she is a woman determined to get her way.

At the same time Edwin is suffering an ear-bashing about his future from the long-winded, interfering Auntie Hamps (Joyce Redman). Edwin displays that it is not in his nature to cut the discourse short or ignore her plea.
