Mare than 16M runnem, aged from aeveh to 7#, participated In an Inaugural 12km run from Sydenham Park te Sumner yesterday. The run. organised by the Sumner Round Table, was used bv many as i 'vwmp to the Sedley Wells mld-wlnter marathon and half-marathon on June 5 from Queen Elizabeth n Park The National member ef Parliament for Lyttelton >MIU Colleen Dowel started the run and presented a magnum ef champagne to the first. and se-end runner? home. First was the Canterbury
marathon representative. Ga.-y Clarke. Many athletes from AMnrtnt codes participated. Including the Canterbury hammer thrSwer, Bernie Harland, and the long distance New Zealand cyclist, Ross Bush. Many “ftin' runners (not members nt elubs) also took part. A spokesman for the organising committee, Mr Paul Brosna han, said he was delighted with public response te the run The preceeds. a “substantial sym.” would be given te the Canterbury Multiple Sclerosis Society. The run would become aa annual event.
