Narrow win for Remorse

PA Timaru The win favourite, Remorse, registered a last stride win in the DB Handicap, first leg of the TAB Double at Washdyke on Saturday.

A sister to Miracle Mile winner Nimble Yankee, Remorse finished powerfully from four back on the rails to catch Butler Belle on the line.

Remorse is trained by her Mount Hutt owner-breeder, Colin McLaughlin and was driven by probationary driver, Fraser Kirk. Butler Belle, which was at long odds, shot clear 100 metres out after trailing to the turn.

Lord Warden made ground from the third line to get third ahead of Fallimento, which ran on well from midfield.

The place favourite, Garzandy, was not suited by the slow pace and was never prominent, finally finishing 14 th.

Kingsdown Cavalier set a slow pace and the race developed into a sprint home with the 3200 m being covered in 4.20. Last-start winner, Ice Wise, completed the TAB double with a comfortable

win in the Johnny Walker Handicap. Ice Wise was well placed on the outer from the 800 m and ran on too well for the off-course favourite, Copper Hanover, which came on from the fourth line.

Copper Hanover was driven by Mike De Filippi, who was after his fourth driving success of the day.
