Rebuke by Speaker
PA Wellington The Speaker of the House of Representatives (Mr J. R. Harrison) told spectators in Parliament’s public galleries last evening they were there to listen and watch, but not to take part in he proceedings.
Mr Harrison’s rebuke came after many spectators applauded Mr N. P. H. Jones (Nat., Invercargill) after he seconded the Ad-dress-in-Reply. Earlier, they had joined Government members in applauding the mover of the Address-in-Reply. Mr J. L. Lithgow (Nat., Palmerston North). Mr Harrison told spectators they were to take no part in the proceedings “by way of approbation or criticism.”
