Indonesia through
PA Auckland Indonesia entered the final of j the Über Cup women’s badmin- 1 ton contest last night by taking ; the first four games against the United States at Badminton Hall, ' Auckland, after two hours and a 1 half of play. The success of Indonesia, which holds the trophy, was, 1 although decisive enough on the result board, not completely ■ convincing. Certainly it did not reveal the same authority as the ! Japanese showed in their trounc- : ing of Australia on Sunday. Indeed, there was an impression that if the Americans had believed in themselves a little i more the seven-rubber contest could have gone much further ■ into the evening before a result : was found.
In all four of the opening games there were occasions when the Americans looked to have a chance against the champion. The Indonesians, however, invariably escaped these awkward moments with controlled and resolute play. Results, with Indonesian names first: Singles. — Verawaty Wihar.jo beat Cheryl Carton, 11-3, 11-8; Tjan So Gwan beat Judianne Kelly, 11-2. 12-9; Ivana Lie Ing Hoa beat Cindy Baker, 8-11, 11-7, 11-2. Doubles.—lmelda Wiguno and Verawaty Wiharjo beat Diana Osterhues and Janet Wilts, 15-9, 15-12; Regina Masll and Ivana Lie Ing Hoa beat Pam Bristol and Judianne Kelly, 15-12, 12-15, 15-5.
