Comment on radio
The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) told the Canter-bury-Westland division of the National Party on Friday that he had heard the editor of the “Christchurch Star” (Mr Michael Forbes) say on the radio that he had consulted the chairman of directors of New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd, (Mr G. T. Upton) on the newspaper’s editorials about Mr Muldoon.
Mr Muldoon said that he had heard this on “Morning Report.” It was reported in “The Press” on Saturday that the Prime Minister said that he had been informed by Mr Forbes that Mr Upton had been told of the editorials before they were printed. Mr Muldoon’s account was misunderstood and our error is regretted. In commenting on Mr Muldoon’s remarks Mr Forbes said that he discussed the editorials, with Mr Upton during -the week in which they were published.
