Main-line station may be closed
The railway stock yards at Femiehurst, and the Spotswood and Tormore railway station — all on the main trunk line north of Christchurch — may be closed. However, the local body involved, the Cheviot County Council, has asked that the stations and yards be kept open until residents
have had a chance to consider the proposal and the Railways Department seems agreeable to this. According to the department, the small Spotswood and Tormore stations are little used. It wants to close the Ferniehurst stockyards because it is phasing out ts stock waggons.
