Impressive win

Vermont impressively won a 1000 m qualifying trial for two-year-olds at the Riccarton Turf Club’s trials at Rangiora yesterday. He is a half-brother by Beaufort Sea to the good winner Europium, and like his half-sister will do his racing from the Thistoll stable.

A 1200 m qualifying event for maidens was won by Great Man, a half-brother by Greek God to the winner, Melligo. Like Melligo, Great Man is trained at Hokitika by John Hurren. The Riccarton trainer, Barry Taggart, saddled winners of two “open” events yesterday — Full Stop to win the 1200 m for classes 1, 2, and 3, and Billie Jean to win the 1600 m event from Major McCann and No Decision.
