Gonzalez loses
NZPA San Francisco In a battle between two 50-year-olds, Torbin Ulrich, of Denmark, won a 5-2 tiebreaker in the third set to defeat Pancho Gonzalez, of the United States, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, in the San Francisco Grand Masters tennis tournament.
MARATHON.— Tony Simmons, of Britain, stormed to victory in the British marathon championship at Sandbach and immediately said he hoped to run tn both the Commonwealth Games and European championships later this year. Simmons, bettor known as a 5000 and 10-000 metres runner, won in -hr 12min 33sec.
CRICKET.—The Australian ericketers opened their fivematch programme in Bermuda with an effortless 190-run victor- over the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control Presidents XI at Hamilton.
