Ordered off
Five Canterbury players and an Otago representative were ordered from the field for attacking opponents in different senior matches on Saturday.
The Marist prop, Pat O’Byrne, was sent from the field for punching a Shirley player in the main match at Rugby Park. The victim, Steve Scott, the half-back, had five stitches inserted in a gash above the right eye. O'Byme was the fourth senior player sent off in Canterbury Savings Bank Cup matches this season. In combined North Can-terbury-Hurunui matches, three players were sent off
in a match between Kaiapoi and Rangiora after a fight had stopped play. They are John Dobbs and Warren Inch (both Rangiora) and Steve McNally (Kaiapoi). In a match between Woodend and Oxford, the Woodend captain, Murray Cameron, twice named Rangiora “sports personality of the year,” was ordered off after a fight between a team-mate and an Oxford player. In Dunedin, the Otago representative lock, Siro Fuatai, was ordered from the field At Carisbrook for punching an opponent. Fuatai was playing for University’ A against Pirates.
