West Coast candidate

A prominent West Coast farmer, Mr G. K. A. Ferfuson, of Waipuna station, as been chosen as the National Party candidate for the West Coast at the General Election. Other contenders were Messrs A. S. G. McGeady, of Coal Creek, W. D. Johnston, of Haast, and M. Ross, of Wellington. A fifth contender, Mr D. L. Carruthers, of Greymouth, withdrew because of health reasons.
Mr Ferguson, aged 49, was the party’s candidate in the 1966 and 1972 General Elections. He has been the electorate chairman for the party since 1970. He is also chairman of the Westland Catchment Board, and a member of the Grey County Council.
