Sadat letter to Carter

NZPA-Reuter Cairo

The American special envoy to the Middle East (Mr Alfred Atherton) will return home today with a personal message from President Anwar Sadat, of Egypt, to President Jimmy Carter, but without any new Egyptian proposals for restarting the stalled Middle East peace talks. He did not reveal the contents of the Sadat letter, but well-informed sources said it contained the latest Egyptian thinking on the Middle East peace moves.

He said he was confident ways would be found to get the peace talks moving again.

The Israeli Foreign Minister (Mr Moshe Dayan) has left Tel Aviv for Washington, and has said that he is not taking any new ideas or proposals for a Middle East settlement with him.
