Woolston keeps in touch
It was fortunate for Woolston W.M.C. that its captain, Stan McGaffin, chose yesterday’s Rothmans Soccer League match against Stop Out at Garrick Park to score his first goal in the competition. . Not only did his goal m the final minute give his side a valuable point with a 2-2 draw but it also kept it in touch with the other teams in the lower echelon of the league. Two of its main rivals, North Shore and Wellington Diamond United, also picked up points in yesterday’s full round of matches.
North Shore displayed considerable enthusiasm and vigour in beating Columbus Waterside, 3-1, in Welling, tbn. Goals by Brian McKeown, in the first half, and John Sheehan and Duncan Cole, with a tremendous 25m volley, were answered only by a solo effort from Jim Richardson 15 minutes from the end.
Two late goals gave W.D.U. a draw at Wellington against a rather complacent Mount Wellington. It stwo goals came in the final five minutes.
A goal by Steve Elliott, one of Eastern Suburbs’ im-
ported players from Notting- 1 ham Forest, was enough to , sink Trans Tours United in i Auckland while Blockhouse 1 Bay deservedly beat. Ham- j ilton 3-2, at Hamilton. It i was Hamilton’s second loss 1 by that margin in three , davs. i At Auckland, Courier Rangers played out a score- , less draw with Nelson j United in a match which : never reached great heights. , Results:— „ — , !
