SCHOOL MUSIC CONTEST
A vocal section and an elementary original composition section have been added to this year’s Bank of | New South Wales school music contest. The contest, which has been presented by the Music Federation of New Zealand for the last 12 years, has been open to any group of three to 15 instrumental ! players who attend a seconIdary school. Last year, 1658 in 215 groups took part. ! The instrumental section iis again open to any group I of three to 15 players, with
no restriction on instruments or combination of instruments. The new vocal section is open to any group of three to 14 singeYs, with no restriction on voices or number of parts. The vocal groups may be accompanied by one instrument, and they may have a conductor. An elementary classification has been added to the original-composition section of the contest. District finals for both the instrumental and vocal sections will be held during June. The national finals will be held in Wellington on August 12 to IX
