The Living Arts
Role reversal Norma! roles are reversed in an exhibition which is showing in the C.S.A. gallery at present. The exhibition features paintings by Vena Henning, who, as a member of the staff of the Robert McArt Gallery, -spends much of her work'ing time arranging ex- . hibitions by other people. • Mrs Henning, a Christ- • church-born interior designer. is a fellow of the British Institute of Designers. One of her major in-
terests is the life of -the church — its warmth and fellowship as well as the beauty of its buildings, and the paintings reflect this interest. They have a medieval quality, relying strongly on the use of heavy texture and rich colour. Early music
The Early Music Society — on of the newest and most enthusiastic musical organisations in Christchurch — has a special treat arranged for its mem bers next week. J. M. Thompson, editor of the
authoritative quarterly journal, “Early Music, will make a private visit to Christchurch, and the society has arranged for him to give a public lecture next Monday. Mr Thompson will discuss the achievements and ■aims of the journal, which is published by the Oxford University Press. These aims include - the compilation of a complete world list of all players of early instruments. This is one of the things he will talk about in his lecture in the Lower Common Room at the Arts Centre.
