Boats ’still in disputed waters’
NZPA-Reuter Tokyo Chinese fishing boats, weathering rough seas, yesterday remained within 19km of the disputed Sen* kaku Islands in the East China Sea, after the Peking Government’s denial of its involvement in their presence.
The Japanese Maritime Safety Agency said that about 140 Chinese fishing vessels sighted since last Wednesday remained in the area and 16 of them were inside the claimed Japanese territorial waters yesterday, morning. The Japanese want the boats to leave. The barren, uninhabited is* lands. 160 km east of Taiwan, are believed to be rich in oil deposits. They are claimed by Japan, China, and laiwan.
