Geography credit at Teachers’ College
The Christchurch Teachers’ College will institute a certificate of attainment course in geography education, and will ask the Minister of Education (Mr Gandar) to give the course recognition as a one-paper credit for the advanced diploma in teaching. This decision meant the,: college now offered 12 part-:. time courses for teachers, ‘ the deputy principal (Mr 1.,: D. Stewart) told the college: Council. j .“These courses, which i have a value equivalent to < that of a university paper, j provide teachers wishing ton advance their professional [ ] qualifications with a valu-1 < jble alternative to courses <
offered by the universities,” he said. The college also had five certificate of attainment courses for persons working in teaching-related fields, and it was expected these would increase, although there was no staffing entitlement for the courses, said 1 Mr Stewart. The chairman of the finance committee (Mr G. M. 'McNally) said that the colTege’s grant for equipment .maintenance was inadequate. Part of the allocation for new Equipment had to be: used for maintaining present equipment. Mr McNally commended college staff for holding expenditure far rhe last financial year, in spite of rising costs.
