Dandaleith in smart trial
Special correspondent Hastings A brilliant 1000 m trial by the Hawke's Bay Cup entrant Dandaleith and an equally-impressive 800 m by Out of the Blue were the highlights at yesterday morning’s Hasting track session. Horses were rounding off their final preparations for the first day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s autumn meeting tomoorrow.
Galloping on the plough (firm), Dandaleith took only Imin o.ssec for 1000 m. the fastest recorded over this distance in a long time. He ran the last 800 m in 48.3 sec and the final 600 m in 35.95ec. The big black has thrived since his race at VVaipukurau on Tuesday and will be a top chance on his home track.
Out of the Blue finished clear of Irish Beauty after a sizzling 800 m on. Ihe plough in 47.95ec, the final 600 m in 36.25ec. Out of the Blue has come on well since running sixth in last Saturday’s Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes. Jon Claude, a visitor brought from the north b\ Brian Smith, went 800 m on the course proper in "»o.osec. the final 600 m in 38.1 sec. Smith said the horse has been troubled with hard tracks but he certainly hit out well yesterday morning.
Sovereign Bilk another northern visitor, stretched out nicely over 800 m in 50.6 sec. the final 600 m in 37.45 cc. Ho will tackle Grey Way. Zermatt and company in the Hawke’s Bay Challenge Stakes tomorrow.
Chinkara. a light-weight threat in the Cep. took Imin 6.ssec to run 1000 m. the final 600 m requiring 38sec. He has freshened up well and usually races well when in this state. Al Donte rounded off his preparations for the Challenge Stakes with 1000 m on the plough in Imin 7.3ser. the final 600 m in 38.7 sec
Stood down.— Battered Boy, which broke free of interference and caused interference to many in the Walnoni Handicap at Add tngton Racewav on Wednesday, has been stood down for competing in totaHsator events until after May 6.
