Tennis title to Perry
PA Auckland Brenda Perry, who improved her national ranking from five last year to three this season, has been named the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s j player of the year. Perry, aged 20, who represented New Zea-! land in the youth team which toured Europe last year, re , turned to New Zealand last October and enjoyed her most successful playing season. After a tentative start in the Benson and Hedges open, she reached the semi-finals of the' national hardcourt championships, the Auckland champion ships, and the New Zealand championship', only to be edged out by the Queenslander, Marilyn Tesch. However, she had her moment of glory when she won her first open title in New Zealand bv capturing the North Shore open. Tesch was again her opponent in the final. Perry also enioved considerable success in the doubles when
| paired with the Canterbury girl, Sally Chapman. They readied • the final of the women’i doubles • in the Benson and Hedges open I but were defeated in the delaved .final. I However, the New Zealand pair jwon the Auckland championships I women’s doubles.
