Lifting records
Precious McKenzie (New Zealand) broke records in both the squat and the total power lift event at the international power-lifting championships in Honolulu on Tuesday. The total power lift includes the squat, bench press, and dead lift. Weighing in at 56.1 kg, McKenzie lifted 209 kg from a squat, bettering the record by 18kg. In the three events, he scored a
record-breaking total of 579 kg. Jon Cole (United States) took the total-lift event in his class with a total of 948 kg. Hideyaki Inaba (Japan) set new records in the dead lift and total-lift categories. He dead-lifted 22 5 kg, bettering McKenzie's record of 223 kg set two years ago, and in the total lifts he raised 545.5 kg, improving his own record of 531 kg.
