Situations Vacant x ■ -W VW* -fssW Sr Royal New Zealand Navy TIDAL OFFICER RNZN HYDROGRAPHIC OFFICE Applications are invited for the position of Tidal Officer in the RNZN Hydrographic Office in Takapuna. DUTIES: The position involves the collection of tidal data in the field and the processing of all tidal information within the New Zealand area of charting responsibility. After initial training, including a period at sea in HMNZS MONO WAI, the successful applicant would be employed permanently' at the Hydrographic Office. CONDITIONS: Applicants must be New Zealand citizens and physically fit. The successful applicant would be required to serve a probationary period of one year. The initial term of employment will be five years followed by four years reserve liability. During this time the applicant may apply for an extension of service to retiring age for rank (age 45). In certain circumstances prior service may be purchased for superannuation purposes, and an extension of service beyond retiring age for rank may be granted to enable an applicant to qualify for superannuation. The successful applicant would be commissioned as a Naval Officer. Rank and seniority would be dependent upon qualifications and experience. QUALIFICATIONS: The applicant should hold graduate qualifications in physics and mathematics. A knowledge of elementary computing systems is desirable but not essential. Applicants holding Master Mariner Certificate (Foreign Going) would also be considered. Previous naval experience would b« an advantage. EXPENSES: The successful applicant will receive all reasonable travelling expenses for himself, his wife and immediate dependants plus removal costs for his household effects from his present address to Auckland.
