McAlpine profit rises 9p.c.
The unaudited group net i trading profit of McAlpine ' Prestcold, Ltd. rose 9.7 per cent to $417,000 in the six months to January 31. Although there was a downturn in the number of domestic refrigerators sold during the period, sales in other divisions showed some improvement resulting in a small increase in group sales compared with the same period last year the directors say. i
It is apparent that the domestic market will not recover rapidly, and that the 'sales of some products will reduce the second-half of the year.
’ Nevertheless having regard to the current economic i circumstances the result for i the full year should be satisfactory, they say. The profit was after providing $54,000 less for tax at $256,000. Allowance has been made for $48,000 in calculating the provision, being half the tax relief arising from the stock adjustment.
A steady interim dividend of 3.5 c a share (7 per cent) is payable on May 26, ex dividend on May 17.
