52-run win to Australia
NZPA St George’s Grenada
Wayne Clark will always remember the match against the Windward Islands He took a career-best 12 wickets for 71 in the match, seven for 26 in the first innings and five for 45 in the second.
The Australians won by 52 runs after bowling out the Islands for 190 in their second innings on the third day. The end of a highly forgettable game was delayed for two hours 40 minutes because heavy overnight rain had saturated parts of the wicket.
The groundsmen spoke of seepage but one look at the covers revealed why the wicket was wet: they were full of holes.
The margin probably flat-
tered the Windwards. Whether it was the water or just age, the wicket played almost consistently. It had been totally unpredictable on the second day and downright dangerous on the first.
The home side resumed at j 116/5, needing a further 127 jto win. Mike Findlay, who 'had been hit on the forehead when wicket-keeping the previous day added 17 runs with Adrian King before giving a bat-pad catch off Bruce Yardley to Kim Hughes at leg slip. Clark stepped in to take the next two, bowling King for 11 and having Stanley Hinds caught at mid-off for a duck.
Australia 121/9 dec. and the Windward Islands. He and 190. (L. Sebastien 41, G. Browne 32, D. Collymore 31; W. Clark 5/45, B. Yardley. 3/51).
