Musician wants to marry organ
NZPA-Reuter London Friends and relations were invited, the groom had his best suit cleaned, and all was set for Stefan Copooldi’s church “wedding” , — ,o his electronic organ. But the vicar who had agreed to carry out the service on Saturday declared: “As far as 1 am concerned, '.here will be no service.” The Rev. John Forryan said he had made the decsion after he heard Mr Coppoldi’s remarks about his attitude towards the service.
Mr Coppoldi had said earlier “1 have been let down by women too often. But 1 snow the organ cannot betray me.
“I want to spend the rest of my life with only the organ. So what could be more natural than to marry it . . .” Mr Forryan emphasised yesterday that he had in mind a simple blessing of Mr Coppoldi’s SNZIS,OOO organ in St Paul’s Church, Gloucester. “I have now seen Mr Coppoldi and told him in no uncertain terms that, because of his quote about marriage, I will have nothing to do with the blessing of this instrument.” So the plans of the 38-year-old Gloucester musician were in ruins. Before the ban on his “marriage”, he had outlined his plans to have the instrument specially wheeled into the church for the occasion. At the climax of the service, a cloth covering the “bride” was to be removed and Mr Coppoldi was to sit down and play his favourite piece of music, “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina.”
