Strong team for Russell Grace
Canterbury will have a strong team to compete in the annual Russell Grace women’s golf tournament, to be played at Waitikiri early next month. There are two changes from last year’s side. Judith Parkes is now in the Tasman golf area, and Jeannette Kinnaird is named as first reserve. These two places have been taken by Sue Bishop and Judy Davidson. Mrs Bishop was not available for the last two Russell Grace tournaments — a bunion one year and a baby the next kept her out. Her return will be welcomed; it will give the team added strength at the top.
The full team is, in alphabetical order: Mrs Bishop, Miss S. Boag, Mrs N. D. Cullen, Miss Davidson, Mrs S. Haydon. The reserves are Miss Kinnaird and Mrs S. Whitaker. There must have been earnest debate about the one position tn doubt, won by Miss Davidson. She is an accomplished golfer, but Miss Kinnaird, if she had little success at Shirley this week, has performed most ably in her Russell Grace appearances. The determining factor might well have been that the tournament is at Waitikiri, Miss Davidson’s club — and she holds the course record there.
