Australian markets firm
Share prices generally improved on Australian markets yesterday; institutional buying was active. B.H.P. ended with a 4c rise to 610 c after trading as high as 614 c earlier. The Bank of N.S.W. was steady at 522 c and the A.N.Z. gained 5c to 270 c. A.G.C. fell 3c to 162 c and 1.C.1. was down a cent to 205 c. Of the sugar stocks C.S.R. gained 6c to 263 c. T.N.T. was steady at 105 c but Myer eased 2c to 168 c after the market had considered Wednesday’s announcement of a half-yearly profit downturn. Australian gypsum fell 10c to 200 c on a turnover of more than IM shares. Boral, which said it had nearly 40 per cent of the Australian Gypsum capital, fell 6c to 230 c. E.Z. Industries ended with a 6c gain to 210 c; higher zinc prices have boosted it as has the good run given to
i uranium stocks in the past j week. On the mining boards iUtah gained 20c to 350 c, Pancontinental gained 30c to $10.70, after announcing a new exploration venture | with a Japanese concern; Western Mining was steady at 120 c, and Bougainville closed up a cent at 113 c.
