$5000 aid bid seems sure to fail
The Canterbury Progress League seems unlikely to get the extra $5OOO it wants from the Christchurch City Council to tide it through financial difficulties until local-body grants are made.
The extra $5OOO. over and above the council’s annual grant of $12,000. has been sought by the league at a time when the council is studying over-all public relations needs in the community — and who can best meet them.
The $5OOO has been designated in this year's council estimates for its own public relations efforts, but about $3250 of this will have been spent by the end of March. The council’s policy and finance committee has recommended that the league’s request be declined.
