No bare back for Anne

NZPA London The Royal sculptor, David Wynne, will no doubt raise a few eyebrows when his new statue of a horse and rider is unveiled. For the naked rider bears a striking resemblance to Princess Anne. Mr Wynne, aged 51, is adding the final touches to the 12ft high, U-tonne cast stainless-steel statue. It is being made at the Steel Castings Research and Trade Association

foundry in Sheffield and will be unveiled at the fountain precinct in the citv in May. But Mr Wynne, who in 1974 cast a bronze bust of the Queen wearing the King Edward Crown, was highly amused about the confusion. He chuckled: “It is not a bit like Princess Anne. It must be the wav the statue has been photographed.” In fact, he said, the rider’s face is that of his son, Edward, aged 16.
