Children’s programme
Hard on the heels of criticism of the standard of children’s programmes in New Zealand has come an announcement from TV2 that Mr Bryan Easte has been appointed executive producer of children's programmes. The appointment of the former head of light entertainment programmes to the new post was announced by the channel’s programme controller (Mr Ke van Moore). Mr Moore did not announce what budget will be provided, or what the channel’s commitment to better programmes for children is likely to be. Mr Easte was formerly executive producer for the N.Z.B.C. in Wellington. Recently the responsibility for light entertainment at TV2 was shifted.
Mr Moore said that Mr Easte would now produce new children’s programmes, and would do research on the requirements of young viewers, “and the needs of society as a whole.”
He added that the appointment would fill a gap already noticed and commented on by people outside the television industry.
