Spinner out

PA Dunedin The Otago and former New Zealand off-spinner, Peter Petherick, is unavailable for the forthcoming New Zealand cricket tour of England and he will soon transfer from Dunedin to Wellington. The 35-year-old off-spin-ner, who has taken 139 wickets in only three seasons, has accepted a transfer to Wellington with his firm, Goodyear Tyres, and he has placed his career future ahead of cricket.

Petherick informed the convener of the national selection panel, Mr Frank Cameron, of his unavailability on Monday night, thus opening the way for either Doug Bracewell or Hedley Howarth to accompany Stephen Boock on the trip to England. lire popular Otago spinner emphasises that he has not retired from cricket, but at this stage he is still undecided whether he will be available to play in next season’s Shell Series.
