Builders elect new officers

The annual conference of the Master Builders’ Federation ended at Ashburton with the installation of the new president, Mr D, W. Paterson, Auckland, who succeeds Mr F. A. Cree, of Wellington, and of the vice-president. Mr L. S. Street. Two new councillors were elected to fill vacancies created by the retirement of Messrs W. H. Lindsay (Southern region) and R. J. Mitchell (Dunedin). They are Messrs L. Cadzow (Southern region) and B. Phillips (Canterbury). Mr Mitchell urged the federation to concern itself with industrial relations in the industry, to the extent of employing a person to maintain a “finger on the pulse” because of award negotiations and in the light of “escalating wage claims by unions.”
