Indoor cricket debut
PA’ Auckland New Zealand will make its debut into indoor cricket when two players take part in an international tournament in London late next month. The New Zealand Cricket Council Board of Control approved an invitation for Neu Zealand to take part. The indoor tournament, a double-wicket event, will be staged by the Players’ Association. the cricketers’ organisation in Britain, and teams from the six major test-playing countries will take part. The event will be played at the Wembley Pool indoor stadium. New Zealand and England, who already compete for the
Jordan Rose Bowl, will have another trophy at stake in the future. The Cornhill Insurance Group which recently undertook sponsorship of the England team, has presented a trophy for tests in England between the two countries. Mr Hadlee, the board chairman. explained that one of the conditions of the Jordan Rose Bowl, named after the late Sir William Jordan, was that the tronhv remain in New Zealand. Mr G. Wainscott, of Canterbury. and Mr S. J. Woodward, of Wellington, were named as the umpires for the Canter-bury-Auckland Shell Trophy final at Christchurch on March 17-20.
