Watersiders win Polish contract
The waterslders’ own Lyttelton Stevedoring Company has a new feather in its cap—winning a contract to stevedore Polish Ocean Line vessels. The Polish Ocean Line, a member of the European shipping conference, sends about six conventional ships a year to New Zealand. The contract, held on an annual basis, was formerly held by Seaport Operations, Ltd. Though perhaps not a fatal loss to Seaport, New Zealand’s largest stevedoring concern, it is a blow at a time when the company has had to resort to drastic staff cuts In the face of dwindling conventional shipping. Lyttelton watersiders have a third shareholding in the Lyttelton Stevedoring Company 7. j The first Polish shin, the I Wladyslaw Broniewski, is due ' next week from Tauranga to load 1000 tonnes of milk powder :for Peru, and 1100 bales of wool for Poland.
