About antiques
The wisdom in sending valuable pictures away to be’ auctioned when there are! qualified firms, (not necessarily ours) locally, is debateable. Packing, insurance, and freight charges, oftentimes both ways, are considerable as are the risks involved. A water colour, unsold when offered elsewhere, was sold at our last antique auction for two and a half times the reserve price then asked, much to the vendor’s delight, with the added joy of witnessing its sale. Our antique offering of Wednesday, March 22 will be superb, with silver, paintings, jewellery, ceramics and furniture of unsurpassed merit. Next Saturday’s “Press” will contain full details. R. G. Bell and Company, Auctioneers of lovely things. —Advertisement
