Charles 10th in golf
NZPA-Reuter Nairobi « Bob Charles (New Zealand) finished equal tenth in the Kenyan open golf championship yesterday. Charles, with a total of 284, shot rounds of 69, 74, 70, 71. The tournament was won by Severiano Ballesteros, of Spain, who had a four-round total of 274 (73, 66, 69 66). Ballesteros, making his first appearance in Kenya, pipped the overnight leader. Bernard Gallacher, of Scotland, by one shot after Gallacher had a final-round 69. The Kenyan-born Briton, Garry Cullen, who had a lastround 66, took thir fl place on 276, with Ken Brown (Scotland) fourth on 278.
In Calcutta, the 31-year-old Bill Bras'k, of the United States, won the Indian open golf tournament, the fourth leg of the Asian circuit, with
a four-round aggregate of eight-under-par 284 at the Royal Calcutta golf course yesterday, Agence FrancePresse reported. Kuo Chih-Hsieng, of Taiwan, the defending champion, Brian Jones, and Stewart Ginn, both of Australia, coleaders after the third round, tied for second place with a total of four-under-par 288. Bu.sk shot a spectacular six-under-par 67 yesterday. And in Los Angeles, young Nancy Lopez fired a one-under-par 71 and moved past Debbie Austin to score her second straight Ladies’ Professional Golf Association victory, a one-stroke triumph in the SUS 100,000 Sunstar Classic.
Lopez. who earned SUSIS,OOO, finished with 72hole score of 285, three strokes under par. Austin, who led through
most of the tournament, finished tied for second with Debbie Massey at 286. Marilyn Smith (New Zealand) was well down on 74, 71, 81, 77—303.
