Another tattoo planned
The organisers of Tattoo ’7B are so pleased with the success of Saturday evening’s show that they plan to hold another one in 1980. Mr A. Miller, president of the organising committee of Tattoo *7B, said yesterday that a crowd of 14,000 at Queen Elizabeth t II Park on Saturday saw the events. These included massed pipe band and brass band displays, an illuminated drum majors’ display, staff flourishing, Scottish country dancing, Highland dancing, a secondary-schools relay race, a New Zealand Army Band display, gymnastics, massed marching teams, motor-cycle stunts, and fire appliance display.
Unfortunately, because of the low cloud, the skydivers were unable to make their jumps, and this event had to be cancelled.
However, everything else went as planned. Most successful, according to Mr Miller, was the display by the fire brigade and the playing of the Paul McCartney song, “Mull of Kintyre” by the Army Band and the Scottish Society Pipe Band. Proceeds from the Tattoo will go to the Scottish Society Hall replacement fund and the pipe band travel fund.
